Veba: 1998 pre-tax profit DEM 4679 mln (4973)

German diversified utility Veba AG, said its 1998 pre-tax profit decreased by 6 per cent to DEM 4679 million (EUR 2392 mln), compared with DEM 4973 a year earlier. The reduced results were within expectations, because of start-up costs in telecommunications and losses in its US silicon wafer business, according to Bloomberg News.
