Amid publication of healthy profit figures for 1998, Mannheim-based ABB AG, has announced plans to reduce its workforce to 22,000 employees, 1700 jobs less than before. The cut will be part of Deutsche ABB's strategic reorientation, which is to take the company's core business away from classical electronics and increasingly into industrial and construction technology, Handelsblatt reported.
