The priceof the December 2016 contract in carbon allowances rose 52 cents, or nearly 12percent, to 4.95 euros a tonne on the ICE Europe Futures exchange on Wednesday.
At about10:30 cet on Thursday, the contract price had climbed further to 5.17
Carbon prices rise on Opec deal
The prices of EU carbon emission rose above 5 euros a tonne for the first time three months on Thursday, lifted by Opec’s deal on oil production the night before, and a subsequent rise in natural gas and oil prices.
